Because: "She is pleasant, punctual, professional lady in her work. Her expertise as a hairdresser is second to none. I have never failed to get an appointment with her when I needed one. Maresa always delivers what you request. She just does my hair they way I want it. When your hair is right it gives you a feel good factor. I always enjoy my visit to Maresa, and of course a cup of tea is always on offer. She is a good communicator and very friendly."

Because: “Jackie is absolutely brilliant at what she does. She always makes a big effort to fit you in even when she is busy. She works very hard and definitely deserves to win. She has a huge client base, and a lot of her customers drive out from Sligo town to get their hair done in Flair. She is very creative and knows what will look best and has it done in next to no time.”

Because: “I would like to nominate John Cawley for the Golden Scissors award because he is an excellent hairdresser. He is a friendly person who can suggest lots of different ideas for the perfect hairstyle. I recently got married and I had a lot of difficulty deciding what to do with my hair for the wedding. I had a few different trials done with different hairdressers but they weren’t what I was looking for. I spoke to one of my colleagues who recommended that I should try John Cawley and see what I think. I rang up to make an appointment as he had recently opened a new salon in Collonney called Hair Design. I went for my trial a week later. I met John that evening and firstly he asked me to describe my dress. My hair was medium length so it could be left down or put up. He suggested that I should put my hair up to go with the design of my dress. Within a half an hour he had made a masterpiece of my hair. The only way I can describe it is by saying it was like a masterpiece on my head. It was fabulous. I then booked him to do my hair for the wedding, and all of the wedding party. He arrived at my house on the morning of the wedding at 7am with some of his staff from the salon. They all got to work and by 9am he was finished. It made the day a lot calmer by not having to leave the house or worry about ny hair getting messed by going outside. I would be very grateful if you could consider the above story as I really think John deserves the Golden Scissors award.

Because: “I have probably tried every salon in Sligo over the past 15 years but I have never been as happy as I am with the way Cora cuts and colours my hair. Cora is Polish and didn’t train in Ireland. Every six months or so she will suggest a change of style or colour, sometimes it is a subtle change but it really makes you feel good. She also has a different cutting technique which allows you to six to eight weeks from a hairdo. If I ever left the salon and I was a little unhappy about a fringe length there was never a problem going back to Cora.”

She is quiet, and her boss often tells her she should talk to her clients more. She has an exceptional flair for upstyles for weddings and graduations. She is very obliging and will always try her best to accommodate you.”

Because: “I think she is a very good hairdresser. She is very obliging and kind. After being in hospital for three weeks she came to my home. She did my hair and would not take any money for it. She had worked all day before that. She is the only one who does my hair right. On another occasion she opened the salon for my mum and I because we had gotten bad news and had to go to England in the middle of thr night. I think she is the best hairdresser in Sligo. Not many people would do what Pauline had done for me. I am sure she has done the same for many others but she would never talk about it. In my opinion she deserves the Golden Scissors Award of Excellence wall plaque and a good holiday. Even my two boys and my husband go to Pauline.”

Because: “Anthony is just a super, excellent hairdresser. He is always in good form – very bubbly. We notice that he greets and thanks all his staff’s customers aswell. If a female stylist does somebody’s hair Anthony will always make it his business to acknowledge and thank that customer. We think it is an extra personal touch. From our observation his staff find him a fair and cool boss. There seems to be good banter among the staff. He is always very helpful. He does as you ask. He often suggests good new ideas. We think he is excellent and so deserving of this prize. Best of luck Anthony. He has won many awards for his skills.”
