Decent Sligo displays in Santry heat

A SUPERB AAI Senior Track & Field Championships at Santry’s Morton Stadium last weekend was lit up with a stunning new Irish race walk record by Rob Heffernan in the men’s 10k walk and good performances by three other Beijing-bound competitors, Paul Hession, Eileen O’Keefe and Roisin McGettigan.

LAST January I received a text message from Rob Heffernan, Ireland’s top race walker. The Cork man was abroad doing heavy training for the upcoming season which would culminate this August in Beijing at the Olympic Games.
