Buy this week’s paper for YOUR CHANCE to win a sporty Ford Fiesta – one Sligo Weekender reader MUST drive away in this car!

The Sligo Weekender’s annual car competition was launched last week at the home grounds of Sligo Rovers.

The competition, which is in its fifth year, gives Sligo Weekender readers the chance to win a new car. The winner of this year’s car will win a Ford Fiesta Steel II worth over €17,000.

The winner of the 2007 Sligo Weekender car competition was Ann Healy from Ballymote. Ann won the Chevrolet saloon car by being the Lowest Unique Bidder in the competition. Ann placed a unique bid of €0.04 on the car to win the car worth €15,000.

The mechanic for this year’s competition is a ‘spot the ball’ mechanic, which requires readers to look at an old Sligo Rovers action-shot, which has had the ball airbrushed from it.

Readers must use their judgement to decide where the ball would have been before it was removed. The competition will run for five weeks. Each week, one competition finalist will be randomly selected from the correct entries.

The Sligo Weekender has teamed up with Sligo Rovers FC to create an interesting twist to the competition. On Saturday June 14th, legends will collide in the Showgrounds as Sligo Rovers Legends take on the Liverpool FC Legends.

The Liverpool side will be made up of some of the greatest players to ever play for the Anfield side such as Ian Rush, Jan Molby, Ronnie Whelan, John Aldridge, Alan Kennedy, Phil Neal, Gary Gillespie, Rob Jones, Mike Marsh, John Wark, Paul Walsh, John Durnin and Bob Boulder.

Each of the weekly Sligo Weekender ‘spot the ball’ competition finalists will be brought to this Liverpool Legends match, where the winner of the car will be determined by a half-time penalty shoot-out!

Sligo Weekender marketing manager, Lydia Rogers commented: “This year’s prize is the highest value car to-date; it’s worth over €17,000. The Fiesta Steel II is a really up-market and stylish model, with fantastic features such as 16" alloy wheels, body coloured heated mirrors, leather steering wheel, rear spoiler, sunroof and front fog lights”.

She encouraged all readers to get involved in the competition: “It’s an old cliché, but it certainly rings true- if you’re not in you can’t win and this year’s mechanic is a very exciting and popular one. Readers can guess multiple times, where the ball should have been (one guess per coupon).

The winner of this fantastic competition will drive away in a fabulous new Ford Fiesta after the Sligo Legends V Liverpool Legends match!”
