The Sligo Weekender established the Sports Star Awards in 1997. ‘Born to make a difference’, the Sligo Weekender wishes to recognise, acknowledge and honour the dedication, commitment and outstanding achievements of sports people throughout County Sligo.

The 2007 awards ceremony awards marks the 10th Anniversary of the prestigious event. Ulster Bank has been associated with the event since its inception. Liam Farrell, Senior Manager of Ulster Bank Business Centre in Sligo commented: “Ulster Bank are very proud to be associated with the Sports Stars Awards again this year. It is a fantastic event and one that is well respected in County Sligo”.

This year, leading Irish sportswear manufacturer, Azzurri, have become one of the Sligo Sports Awards partners. Azzurri are sponsors of a full sports kit for a team/club nominated by a Sligo Weekender reader, while also sponsoring personalised jerseys for the award winners.
